I wrote Fire From The Sky in the winter of 2000/2001. In a dream
I was playing a reggae song with Happy Savage at a show. When
I awoke all I could recall was the basic riff. The song I built
on this riff became a reflection on the use of violence by the
United States as it tries to enforce its will in the world, and
the danger of the backlash that is created by these activities.
In particular, I was struck by how safe we Amercans feel even
when our air force is dropping bombs on people in other countries.
We are deciding for innocent people in other countries that it
is time for them to die for our cause, and telling them it is
for their own good. We have very little sense of personal threat
coming to us as a result of these massively violent actions,
but I believe we will reap what we sow -- the chickens will be
coming home to roost. This song, written before September 11,
2001, suddenly seemed prophetic at that time.
